The Riceball Roll |
Once upon a time, there were a kind old man and an old woman. "Ifm off to the forest to chop some wood," the old man said one day. The old woman made some riceballs for his lunch. At lunch time, the old man opened up the package to eat his riceballs. Then a riceball rolled out. He said, "My riceballcWait! Where are you going?" The riceball rolled and rolled and fell into a hole. The old man peered down the hole. He heard sweet voices singing below. "Riceball kororin suttonton. Riceball kororin suttonton." "Who is singing that song?" he wondered. Just then, he heard a voice from the hole. "Thank you for the delicious riceball. Please come in!" Suddenly the hole became bigger. And he fell into it. There was a world of mice the inside.
The mice said, "Welcome, old man. Thank you very much for your delicious riceball." Mice brought rice cakes one after another. Well, these rice cakes tasted absolutely delicious. The old man said, "Thank you very much for dinner." He got rice cakes from the mouse an returne home. When he got home, he gave the old woman the riceballs he had gotten from the mice. She said, "Riceballs? Oh! These are gold coins!!!" The man's bag was filled to the brim with gold coins.
As it happened, they were the greedy old man and greedy old woman living next to the kind old man and old woman. Upon hearing the kind old woman, the greedy old woman sai, "The old man seems to have gotten a very good thing." said the greedy old woman. The greedy old man went to forest. The greedy old woman made riceballs. The greedy old man found the mouse hole. He forced some riceballs inside. "Riceball kororin suttonton. Riceball kororin suttonton."
Soon the mice invited him in. "Welcome, greedy old man! Thank you very much for your delicious riceball. Please enjoy the party," said the mice. The greedy old man thought that he would get all the treasure for himself. He suddenly imitated a cat. Meoow!!! The mice escaped out of hole. With that, the light in the room suddenly went out. There was nothing but pitch blackness. The greedy old man neighbor felt his way back, leaving the treasure behind. He started to cry. The greedy old man said, "I canft find my way out. Somebody, help me!" The person must not be greedy or he may find himself alone and in darkness.
