Sundubu Jjigae, the best hot food

by Kanae S. (3rd year)

Have you ever heard of Sundubu Jjigae? It’s a Korean dish. Sundubu means tofu. Jjigae is soup with kimchee, meat, seafood, vegetables, and raw egg. It is usually served in a small hot pot. I love spicy food, so Sundubu Jjigae is the best food for me!!

When I enter the restaurant, I can smell the spiciness. The good smell makes me ache to eat it at once. I wait for a while, the dish is finally brought to me. The pot is simmering, and I feel the smell more strongly. I try to eat immediately, but it is really hot. I blow on it, and begin to eat slowly. The sharp taste stimulates, and seafood and chinese chive’s smell spread in my mouth. Tofu is smooth, and soup’s taste soaks into it. I break the egg, and eat it with soup. The spicy taste becomes mild, so we can enjoy changes of the taste. While I eat it, I feel hot and sweat. But it is comfortable!

I often eat Sundubu Jjigae at a Korean restaurant with my family. I hope to eat the real thing in Korea. The weather is just starting to hot, but let’s eat Sundubu Jjigae, and sweat agreeably!!
